Hi

Mon Nov 9, 2009, 2:14 PM
This is a funny old medium cos' you could just end up writing to yourself if nobody bothers to visit, but anyway.....

Faves and Raves

Firstly a big, big thank you to all of you kind and generous people that have either been to visit my little bit of DA, faved my images, left some very complementary comments or even added me to their watchlist. I'm very flattered and pleasantly surprised.

On the point of faves and thanks, since joining I couldn't help but notice that whenever I have faved or commented on an artwork a goodly number will then go to the trouble of thanking me in return

Now, I must confess that this is something that I'm not very good at when people do the same to my work and there do seem to be some mixed views about this so I'm just letting it be known that I don't do an automatic thankyou.
What I do do though, when I can beat my family back from the shared PC to get on, is I will, without hesitation, fave something if I like it, and if the earth moves for me I will definitely leave a comment, and I don't expect anything in return because, well, as I've said elsewhere, life is too short.

So.. having just got back into the swing of things and starting to post stuff again a little domestic situation has just arisen that is going to take up a lot of my time and severely limit what I can do on here for a month or two at least. I will still post when I can but please don't think me to be rude if I'm unable to respond to any mailings.

Happy Posting to all

Regards

Hi... Well....What to say...

I suppose the simple truth will do.

I hit the big five'o last year and I've been doing art and/or photography from a very early age - in fact I got so serious with my photography that in the late eighties I had my own studios and worked as a freelance advertising and promotional photographer but the recession of the early nineties nipped that one in the bud.

A change of direction in my life led to my camera's being hung up for some 15 years and it was only about 2 years ago that I started to play with a cheap digital pocket camera.. and well... WOW!, what a difference a decade or two makes! Anyone starting photography now with a digital camera can have absolutely no idea how archaic the mechanical and chemical processes are (yes they are!) and what a liberalising transformation to the visual arts has been brought about by the digital age.

For my part I always had a hankering and fascination for fractals but early software and veeerrry sssssllllooooowwww computers (about 16 years past!!) put me right off any further attempts. Not any more though! My introduction to this and other similar sites only eight or nine months ago showed me that these are easily within my grasp and what you now see in my gallery is nearly 20 years of pent up creative frustration.

Now here's the rub. having rediscovered my art and photography and having the tools to go do anything beyond what was possible 2 decades ago I got hit with a life threatening condition in June this year that required some minor surgery on the old ticker, a lifetime of drugs and a complete lifestyle change.

So far so good but the upshot is that even though I may well be around for another half century I'm acutely aware that the end may happen in the next ten minutes and that puts a unique perspective and urgency on a lot of things including, if not especially, my art.

So my philosophy these days is simple and a few well worn phrases can sum it up;

Life's too short

There's no time like the present

Just do it!

Keep it simple!

Get rid of the baggage cos' you can't take it with you.

And that's all there is really because we have no idea how fleeting our lives really are until we have that little dance with the grim reaper

Anyway on a happy note Helmut Newton is reputed to have done all of his best work after his first heart attack so here's to a bright and productive future - for all.

regards

Cluke

That was Zen, but this is Tao.

Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before !

Thanks Cluke for the :+fav: of "Hexic Julia1" [link] and for the :+devwatch: :) You have a nice fractal gallery :D Maybe you would appreciate my "Chaotic series of fractal articles" [link] if you have a little theoretical interest ;)

Regarding deep zooms in the Mandelbrot set, if you check out my deviation "Cauliflowerfort" [link] and click the link under "Artist's Comments", from page 4 you can follow the entire zoom sequence in 28 steps :wow:

Hi

Thankyou for the generous and warm response. I am interested in your articles because a very quick read of the items on your front page has already enlightened me and I intend to follow up on the download that you suggest.

But, and there's a very big but, I'm not in the slightest mathematically gifted so the theoretical side invariably goes completely over my head. I'm more one of those annoying types that can't patiently listen to instructions, chomps at the bit to get going and then presses every button in sight just to see what happens! A colleague quite often gives me his software tools for destruction testing!LOL

I started out on Tierazon in April this year and I've just had my first go of Fractal Explorer - both very nice and very easy and I'm really pleased with the results. Tierazon is so easy that I've already saved about 6000 small files to have a play with but due to time constraints I've only managed to produce about 150 finished files.

The driver for me is the creative impact and I do seem to like my bright colours but I have noticed, since joining DA, that within the fractal community here the more contemporary programmes seem to hold sway and most of the popular images are very dark and can even be ominous sometimes. Not always the thing you would want to put on your living room wall - but perhaps I'm showing my age. So, for a little while I was doubtful whether to carry on with the Tierazon stuff, but, what the hell, I've practically got my own niche in here.

I do admire your own work. It's very pure and very exact and I'm truly impressed that you actually know exactly what is going on in every image - something that I could never aspire to and probably wouldn't want to because, I suppose, for me, it would blow away that touch of mystique that these things generate.

Anyway, enough blabbering, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Really glad you appreciate my articles :) Regarding math, there are three Intros for "dummies" added in the beginnign. And no all articles are of mathematicle nature (for example 10 - 14). IF you want a very rapid start t oth Mandelbrot set, check out my journal [link] ;)

Light or dark colors, you decide yourself using the color editor of you software ;)

That's a tricky subject. I am one of very few that pot "raw" fractals, that is without filters or pp. You can read about that in my journal [link] ..

I try to do what I am doing., My motives are stops on a journey :) That has always been my approach to the fractal world.

And I know hardly anything about IFS or FLAME fractals. Wish you a good luck with the fractal journey of your own
